Britney Steers Clear of the Emmys

So now we know. Britney will not be making an appearance on Sunday's Emmy Awards annual telecast, as it has been wildly rumored in all media over the past few days. "Britney Spears has no plans to appear on the Emmys this Sunday" stated a representative of her label, Jive. I was sort of rooting for it, but in the end, maybe it's for the best that Brit Brit decided not to do it - the world really could not have handled another live disaster coming from her so soon after the last one.

There's also the possibility (more along the lines of wishful thinking) that someone has finally decided to get a strong hold of what's left of Britney's career and has started making the decisions for her. In fact, I was sort of wondering about the connection that could be made between Britney and the Emmys, a point that was emphasized by the Emmy host Ryan Seacrest who stated that "I'm trying to figure out how Britney fits into the context of television's biggest night…I don't know anything about it… it's a possible first step".

Yes, that's the sensible view. And Brit Brit, it seems, has decided to take several steps that are uncommonly logical - such as trying to settle with K-Fed rather than keeping up the media circus - not to mention wearing that long dress and not flashing her bottom at the cameras for once. Which, as I said, makes me suspect that she's either woken up from her year-long coma, or (even more sensibly) allowed someone to help with managing her public image.

In the 'Spears vs. K-Fed' area, looks like the rumors about Brit agreeing to go on paying her ex hubby $20.000 a month indefinitely were false - and K-Fed's substantial allowance will be cut in November, as stipulated in their pre-nuptial agreement. Meanwhile, when questioned about her client's intentions in the near future, Britney's lawyer Laura Wasser stated "I think she just wants to be a mom, and both of her kids' birthdays are this week, and I think she would've liked to celebrate with them without having to worry about the entire nation - the entire world - being concerned about what's going on with her personally and her custody battle with Mr. Federline".

Well, that settles it. Not only will Britney quit singing, she will also settle down as a housewife and look after her kids for the rest of her life. While that is an appealing image - indeed, I think Britney's boys could help her a lot if she really is to get her life back on track - I somehow doubt we will be seeing it happening anytime soon. And I say this because I just don't think Brit is mature enough to realize her "comeback" could take other shapes than just becoming a class A singer again. Which, truth be told, would do nothing but keep her busy and traveling and would ruin any time she might have left with her kids. I am looking forward to seeing what she decides - and we'll keep you posted.
