Pop princess Britney Spears was approached by Donatella Versace to design an entire wardrobe of baby clothes for her imminent first child.

According to media reports, Donatella phoned Britney and offered to create the baby a complete wardrobe for free, repeating the offer she made to Madonna for her daughter Lourdes.

A source said: "Donatella called Britney and said she would like to make clothes for the baby. Britney was delighted."

"They have met a few times and mingle in the same circles, but Britney never expected such a generous offer.

Britney and Donatella have a mutual friend in Madonna and Britney was very impressed by how Madge's daughter was kitted out.

She is hoping that her baby will be the trendiest since Madonna's own daughter, Lourdes!"

Britney's mother, Lynne, is also planning to make some outfits for the new baby.

The source added: "Lynne's an excellent seamstress and has been doing a lot to make sure the baby's wardrobe is fully stocked."
