A short while ago, word got out that Britney Spears was in talks to perform at the Grammys 2011, which would have marked her first performance at an awards show after the disastrous 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

Sadly, it isn’t going to happen, even if inside sources who shared this with the press vouched the deal was almost 90 percent certain.

Confirmation that the performance is a no go comes straight from Britney’s manager Adam Leber, who took to his Twitter the other day to do some rumor control.

“Need to clear something up. This Grammy rumor is just that, a rumor. @BritneySpears was NEVER performing,” Leber writes.

In other words, she was never approached with a request for a live performance, never considered it and never accepted or turned it down.

But that’s not to say her fans have only bad news waiting for them: Leber himself stresses that more Britney will be coming their way very soon – no later than this week.

After the release of her first single “Hold It Against Me” off her upcoming album, Britney announced she was also working on a video for it: fans will get a first look at it in the following days.

“That said, you will be seeing her soon... More importantly, keep an eye out for the album title, album cover and some sneak peeks of the HIAM video, all coming this week...” Leber writes.

He concludes with a word for those who probably accused him of letting the Grammy performance rumor spin out of control or of not denying it earlier.

“PS-For those of you that are [upset], and I mean REALLY [upset], if I sat here all day and answered all of the rumors id never get anything done,” Spears’ manager says.

So that’s that: no Britney Spears Grammy performance, but more details on her brand new album and a first look at the official video for her first single very soon.

Keep an eye on this space for updates.
