Britney Spears has been headlining her own Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood, selling an estimated $42 million worth of tickets so far for 100 shows; and she’s not even done yet. The success of Pieces of Me has made her eager for an even bigger challenge, a new report claims.

That challenge might be next year’s Super Bowl, the Halftime show, aka one of the most coveted musical gigs possible because of the massive exposure they bring, since the Super Bowl is one of the most viewed televised sports events in history.

Britney wants the gig, plans to make it very memorable

“She’s ready to do something massive,” an insider familiar with the discussions on the topic is quoted as saying by Hollywood Life. “She’s definitely doing a part in the Super Bowl halftime show next year. The details haven’t totally been worked out yet, but it will be huge.”

Apparently, the performance will be so huge that it might even include another big pop star of the moment, Miley Cyrus, with whom Britney shares a management team.

On the downside, even if Britney is able to deliver a beautiful, flawless spectacle, fans should also expect all her vocals to be pre-recorded and played back as “live.” Britney Spears was never a live performer, always an entertainer who did amazing shows thanks to an elaborate choreography and stage setups.

It’s true, most Halftime performers have at least some of the vocals on a backing track because of the size of the venue and other conditions not dependent on their ability to sing live, but in Britney’s case, the entire number will be lip-synched.

Her fans might be ok with paying good money to see her do that, but people watching the Super Bowl might feel strongly against it.

New Britney Spears music is coming

Stepping outside the gossip zone for a bit, Britney has confirmed to Billboard magazine that she’s working on new music, though she won’t be putting out an album anytime soon.

In the latest issue of the music publication, the Princess of Pop says that she’s been back in the studio as of September last year and that an album will be coming “slowly but surely” - just not right now.

She doesn’t have the time to do a full album yet, what with the Vegas shows and her boys with ex-husband Kevin Federline growing up, but she will be releasing some singles soon.

In today’s digital market, chart-topping singles are way more important than albums, her manager Larry Rudolph says, adding that they’re “not really talking seriously about a new album yet.”
