14 DAY TRIAL // Britney Spears has come a very long way from her days in 2007, when she would drive aimlessly around town, hounded by the paparazzi and making a fool of herself in ways no other star had ever done before. Since her father stepped in and had her and her estate placed under his guardianship with a court-ordered conservatorship, Britney has been making progress – still, she’s starting to feel like it’s time to break loose.
As is the case every week, the US tabloids and glossies are coming out. Us Weekly has a very interesting story on Britney Spears (story via here) and how she’s determined to break free from her father, having come to the conclusion that she’s worse off than in prison under conservatorship. The tab doesn’t say whether the pop star aims to do something in particular in order to re-gain her independence, but it does say that she’s fed up with everything and not being able to move a single finger on her own.
“[It’s] worse than being in prison — at least in prison you know when your time is up… What 28-year-old wants to be legally controlled by her father?” a source tells Us of how Britney’s feeling right now. In all fairness, if the star is truly feeling trapped because of the conservatorship, she has every reason to do so: with her father calling all the shots, Spears has literally almost no control over her finances or her personal life, and is forced to abide by very strict conditions.
Speaking of conditions, because of the conservatorship and Britney’s odd behavior in public in recent months, at one point, rumor had it that her father had even the power to order her to wear a brassiere whenever she stepped out of the house. Back in April, tabloids were saying that Britney’s father, ashamed of constantly seeing her in paparazzi shots in tops that left little – if anything at all – to the imagination, had mandated a bra on each and every public outing.
“Jamie’s control over Britney’s life is incredible. He wants her to put across the right impression. One security guard was told he is close to getting fired because he lets her go out without her bra. It was also Jamie who made her split with Jason. He likes Jason but their relationship was too intense and volatile. He feared it was sending her back to her old ways. He warned her: ‘It’s Jason or your children’,” an unnamed source told The Sun, as we also reported at the time.
