Britney Spears’ Ratty Weave: Just a Bad Hair Day

Britney Spears has been known to have “off” days, both as regards her attire on public outings and her hair. The other day was the perfect example of the latter, as the singer stepped out with her hair a mess, which almost instantly prompted talk of whether she could not afford to get better hair extensions put it. After all, she did make over $60 million this past year.

However, it could be that those asking themselves this question jumped to conclusions, celebrity stylist Ken Paves tells People. According to Paves, whose client list includes names like Eva Longoria and Jessica Simpson, what happened to Spears the other day could happen to any other girl with extensions on any given day, because it’s a clear case of “bed head.” That is to say, the extensions are not “ratty,” they’re on show when they shouldn’t be.

“Talk about a bad hair day! Britney Spears was snapped shopping in Sherman Oaks, California, Wednesday with a messy, extension baring look that set the internet abuzz with fans speculating about exactly what was happening to her scalp. Was she going bald? Were her extensions done incorrectly? We checked in with hairstylist-to-the stars Ken Paves – who has his own line of extensions that he uses on clients like Eva Longoria Parker and Jessica Simpson – to learn the truth. “It’s not that big of a deal actually, we have all seen this before. A case of bed head, who hasn’t had it?,” Paves tells People,” the magazine writes.

“The truth is that this is exactly how these extensions are applied, however we are not supposed to see them, that’s all. There are thousands and thousands of women walking around whose hair looks just like that ‘underneath’. The remedy is simply to cover it up. It’s not a case of bad extensions, just a bad hair day!” Paves says. He does have a strong word of recommendation, though. “I am more concerned with the friend walking behind her who didn’t tell her right away! Ladies, support your sisters and stay on weave patrol, your day may come too! Help a sister out!” he says.

As we also noted at the time, it could be that the friend walking behind Britney Spears did alert her, because, only seconds after the paps snapped the picture also attached to this article, the pop star pulled her hair back and up in a simple ponytail. By that time, though, the damage had been done.
