You all know that little fellow dressed in gold that goes by the name of Oscar. The Academy Awards for the best movies of the year have a counterpart, almost as well known, the Razzie Awards. And if you want some respect, you don't want to be nominated there, or even worse, win such a fruit cake. Well, about a year ago, "The Washington Post" decided that it was high time for a similar type of award to be granted, but for celebrities.
This year marks the return of the Lizzies, and you're about to find out the nominees, as well as the winners. So without further ado...
We'll begin with the "Best Mug Shot" category. The nominees are: Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie from "The Simple Life", Mel Gibson, Rip Torn and David Faustino. Now Paris may have been recently to the slammer, but that only got her 23% of the votes. The heiress was outdone by Mel Gibson and his 28%, while the Best Mug Shot award goes to Rip Torn, with 33%.
Next is the "Most Shocking Split" category. The nominees are: Tom Cruise and Viacom, Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson, Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon and last and just about least, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. We'll start with the least shocking split, which is buxom blonde Pam Anderson and Kid Rock (2%). As you can imagine, Britney and K-Fed could only impress 3%, but Britney must not be disappointed, as she scored big somewhere else. Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston surprised 8% of the voters, while Tom Cruise's decision to call it quits with Viacom "shocked" 12%. And the "Most Shocking Split" award goes to Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon with 76%. Shocking really.
Moving right along we have the "Best Celebrity-Obsessed Web Site" category, which was won by the guys at TMZ.
We saved the very best for last, meaning the "Biggest Celebrity Train Wreck" category. Isaiah Washington managed to be nominated at the very last minute, while celebrities like Alec Baldwin, David Hasselhoff and the magic trio of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan already had front row seats for this venue. Isaiah, David and Alec all tied at 4%, but that doesn't mean that the three ladies remaining were closely tied. Not in the least. In fact, being in jail reduced Paris' credential substantially, as she only got 8%. Also, Lindsay Lohan's rehab period must have cleared some of her bad name, which could explain her 29%.
Yes folks, you already know the winner, it is none other than Britney Spears, with a massive 59%. Told you that Britney would score big somewhere else, and she took home the mother of all Lizzies. Congrats Britney!
The Lizzie Awards are also appreciative of the celebrities' positive superlatives. Therefore, the nominees for the "Most Admired Celebrity" are: Leonardo DiCaprio, Reese Witherspoon, Al Gore, Elen DeGeneres, Paul Newman, Craig Ferguson, George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie. While the other contestants got only as much as 5%, Angelina Jolie is the undisputed winner with 23%.
Now it's up for the winners to live up to their awards. We'll be watching.
