It’s her first magazine cover in quite a while and, truth be told, it’s one of her best. The latest edition of V Magazine brings a stunning photospread of Britney Spears by Mario Testino, together with a brief interview with the pop star on the upcoming album.

The magazine is out at newsstands today, Thursday, 3 March, 2011, but quotes from the interview have emerged online and are currently making the rounds.

First things first, though, fans note on dedicated forums that the photospread is Britney as they’ve come to know and love her, their ultimate Princess of Pop.

Britney, however, knows that things have changed, and will continue to do so in the years to come. Much has happened in her personal life but she can now say with honesty that she’s happy.

Now pushing 30 and a mother of two boys who are growing up very fast, Britney has learned to be more guarded in her personal life, especially after she came so close to losing it all.

“A little bit [more guarded]. I think it’s easier to let people in when you’re younger, but when I became a mother I wanted more privacy for myself and my children. A life away from my life,” she says.

She’s changed musically too, which will become apparent when her brand new album, “Femme Fatale,” arrives in stores throughout the world at the end of this month.

Asked about it, she says it’s the work she’s most proud of because it marks somewhat of a departure from clean bubbly pop into a more club-sound territory.

“I wanted to make a fierce dance record where each song makes you want to get up and move your body in a different way. That’s what I want from the music I listen to,” she says of the album.

“This record is for the clubs, or something you play before you go out at night. It’s definitely my edgiest and most mature sound yet. There are songs on this album that don’t sound like anything else and are completely revolutionary,” Britney adds.

“I also believe that this album expresses where I am today as a woman and is an evolution of who I am,” the pop star adds.
