Britney Spears has never made a secret of her love of junk food and Starbucks which, as many of us already know from experience, can translate into weight gain especially if there’s no regular workout routine in place to burn all those extra (empty) calories. According to the latest, Britney too knows this now.

Since December until now, the Princess of Pop has gained an estimated 30 pounds (13.6 kg), the National Enquirer claims in its latest print issue (story via ShowbizSpy). At the end of last year, Britney kicked off a 2-year residency in Las Vegas and, apparently, she’s been treating herself a bit too much for all this hard work.

According to an insider close to the star, that she gained weight wouldn’t be that bad if she didn’t have shows almost every night of the week. Some of Britney’s stage costumes are quite revealing and every extra pound doesn’t look good.

Admittedly, her staff is now scrambling to come up with ways to hide that weight gain with those minuscule stage outfits.

“Britney has gained close to 30 pounds, and she’s got a lot of cellulite on her legs and stomach. To disguise her belly onstage, she wears a one-piece leotard made out of a shaping material for a slimming effect,” an insider explains.

“Skin-colored tights cover her legs during her act, and she also likes to use tanning beds and spray tans to hide her cellulite, but it looks ridiculous,” the tipster continues, adding that “Britney isn’t using her home gym, and she’s gorging on junk food.”

She’s also hitting up Taco Bell and McDonald’s whenever she feels like it, and often substitutes a real meal with fried chicken, corn bread, or tacos. To add insult to injury, she can’t seem to be able to stay away from those calorie-laden frappucinos from Starbucks.

However, the report further mentions, the star has finally understood that it’s time for a change, and she’s already come up with an idea to get back in shape.

“She’s going to have prepackaged meals delivered to her house about two weeks before her show starts again,” another source says, before injecting a dose of pessimism into that scenario by adding, “However, that plan didn’t work during her hiatus last year, and it’s not likely to work this time around either.”

Since her knee injury in 2004, Britney has been unable to be the same energetic performer on stage. The injury also put a damper on her workout routine, which, combined with her insatiable love for all things delicious and unhealthy (and fattening), translated into fluctuating weight.

However, even assuming she did gain this much weight since she started the Las Vegas shows, she’s bound to shift it in time, if she just manages to curb her cravings a bit.

On the upside, despite initial negative buzz around the residency, turnout has been exceptional, to the point where there’s now talk that she’s being wooed to extend it for another year after the original planned 2 run out.
