Britney Spears and Jason Trawick are officially done, the singer’s publicist Jeff Raymond confirms for People magazine. The two have mutually decided to end their 1-year engagement but will remain friends.

Speculation about the pop star’s relationship with her former manager and co-conservator has been making the rounds for many months but, until now, she insisted there was no trouble in paradise, as the tabloids would have fans believe.

The other day, though, she was spotted running errands around town without her engagement ring, which sparked a fresh wave of speculation in the blogosphere.

As it turns out, this time the rumors were founded: the two broke off the engagement and have split after 3 years together.

“Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement. As two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends,” Spears’ publicist says in a brief statement.

It also includes a few words from Britney and Jason as well.

“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends,” Britney says.

“As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever,” Jason chimes in.

TMZ reports that Jason has already been removed as Britney’s co-conservator, which means he will not have any saying power over her business now that they are no longer an item.

Her father, Jamie Spears, is sole conservator once again.

Initial reports said that Britney and Jason, who got engaged in Las Vegas in December 2011, were planning for a December wedding (the next year).

As the rumored date drew near, insiders started telling the tabs that not all was well in the relationship and that they were having second thoughts, might even break up.
