This definitely hasn't been Britney's year! First, there were the incidents with her handling baby Sean Preston that got her into all the newspapers. Then, the rumors about her marriage to Kevin Federline being on the rocks began to circulate and didn't stop until she finally filed the divorce papers.

But it was only then when the real craziness began: the new bachelorette Britney took to the party circuit in a way she never did before. She befriended Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and, just like them, she began to flash part of her body to the cameras (covered with underwear or not, depending on her mood, probably).

At one point, Britney's name was on everybody's lips and her many flashings got her into the ABC and Fox News section so it's not a wonder that her parenting skills also began to be questioned. In her turn, the singer (said to be now preparing for a new album that is to come out earlier next year) talked to her fans and tried to justify her outrageous behavior: she spent the last couple of years being pregnant and she's young, so she needs to party, a post on her official website read.

However, Britney's fans were not entirely convinced: if she was sorry she did all of the above, then why didn't she stop? The comments fans left on various blogs referred to the once teen idol as anything from 'white trash' to 'slut' and many promised never again to listen to her music or buy her merchandise.

As a matter of fact, the fans have already taken action as a sign of protest for her shameful public acts: World of Britney, the singer's biggest and most popular fansite just announced that it will shut down starting with January 31st. Although the founder and administrator of the site said in the press statement that the decision is not based solely on the diva's recent behavior but also on the existence of other projects that do not include her, her sullied public image comes first in the list of causes that led to it.

'As Britney keeps losing her identity and credibility within fans and industry people, so is WoB. We're moving on to greater, bigger things. I would therefore like to announce the permanent shut down of World of Britney.com beginning January 31st, 2007.

No worries though, Britney will still be covered and our relationship with her people, Larry etc....will remain intact. I think that WoB has had its run.......its feet are not holding firm anymore, not because of my ability to run it, but because I believe Britney is unfortunately done (for me at least). No matter what anyone thinks or how they may disagree, it's very hard to maintain the respect needed to keep things going, so in turn, I'm trying to be a step ahead of it, and yes, for those of you laughing and remembering what happened in March of 2002, this time, it will be for good :) WoB will continue to provide its daily updates to fans up until it's time to say goodbye.', the press release said.

It's sad to see America's sweetheart like this. This goes out in the hope that 2007 will be a better year for Britney and for her fans all over the world.
