That Britney is not quite the most attentive and caring mother on the face of this planet has been speculated time and time again. However, until now, the media refrained from jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers, on the assumption that the way Spears was around her children when away from the eyes/flashes of the paparazzi, was something that the public was not privy to. Therefore, starting from the premise that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, Britney's parenting skills were somehow protected from the ridicule and sarcasm of the entire media.
Until now. Say what you will about her as an artist/singer, or about her antics in public, but the general feel is that Brit Brit is no longer a fit mother. Or, at least, that's what most US magazines seem to think. And, mind you, this is not like that strange incident of last year when she was seen driving with Sean Preston on her lap - these are really very serious accusations. Can the magazines that put them forward also back them up? Now, that's an entirely different story...
So, instead of going into it, let's see what the magazines have to say about Britney as a mother this time around. Apparently, not only is she not that fond of her children, but she is also treating them in the same way she does her dog. Britney has a very short attention span, 'Life & Style' tells us, and she considers her children as some sort of distraction from the more important things she's doing lately (like... shopping?). Insiders claim that, every time the pop tart gets tired of carrying her two boys around in her arms (indifferently if she's in the privacy of her home or in a street crowded with paparazzi), she just stops, passes her 'burdens' to the person standing nearest to her (be it one of the bodyguards or one of her many assistants/friends) and then goes on about her business as if they didn't even exist anymore (the children, not the hired staff).
Also, Brit found a new way to put her children to sleep, even when they don't feel like it. Aside from giving them Cheetos and Cola, she is also very fond of feeding them ice cream before bedtime because she discovered that 'the cold calms them down'. And, there's more: she even trained Sean Preston, her first-born, into bringing her cigarettes when she's having trouble finding them. Ah, couldn't she get the dog to do that?! 'When Britney and Kevin were first married, she objected to his smoking around the kids but now she smokes like a chimney in front of them. Even worse, when Brit misplaces her pack of cigarettes, she'll actually turn to Sean and say, "Baby, where are Mama's lollipops?" Sean runs, gets her cigarettes and brings them back to her.'
And, if all that isn't enough, yet another magazine takes a swing at her. She will not be pleased! Along with 'Life & Style', 'Us Weekly' is also running a Britney-number, also centering on her inability to be a good mother to her two boys. The topic is the same but the arguments presented are slightly different - this second mag claims that the former teen idol puts soda in her babies' bottles to stop them from crying, is feeding them so many sweets that they are already experiencing dental problems, tried to get Sean's teeth whitened (he's only 22 moths old!) and practically can't see the difference in her mind between her children and her newly-acquired dog.
These are some tough allegations, man, that much I'll give you! But the two magazines claim they have enough information to back them up - while one of them even goes as far as claiming to have someone in Kevin Federline's entourage who can corroborate the entire story. It's about to get tough, people, and like it or not, Britney will have to respond to all this. Also, at the moment, it is rather uncertain how all this will affect the ongoing custody battle so stay tuned here for more details!
