Britney: “Gravely Disabled”, on Her Way to Involuntary Commitment

- At least she's getting help...

By: Monica Gaza, Entertainment News Editor

Everyone, the streets of Los Angeles are safe once more. Britney Spears is safe in the hospital under lock and key, and she's not leaving anytime soon. No, I'm not making fun of Brit Brit, for once – I'm actually being very serious. Britney was always driving around, and her erratic behavior behind the wheel was one of the reasons for which her psychiatrist decided to have her committed in the first place. And now that she's in the hospital, even more alarming (not to mention sad) news is surfacing. It is being
reported that the UCLA Medical Center has been classified Britney as "G.D." - Gravely Disabled - which apparently means that the patient (that is Britney) is "unable to take care of basic needs, such as the acquisition of food, clothing or shelter". TMZ also reports that G.D. is yet another step down the road to involuntary commitment.

Which, sad as it may be, is probably the best thing that could happen to the popwreck. It is obvious that the singer is suffering from bipolar disorder, and despite coming to the hospital of her own free will, she is said to have gone into a rage as soon as she got there. She apparently had a "manic episode" in which she screamed abuse at her mother and accused her, among other things, of sleeping with her "boyfriend". No word on which boyfriend she was referring to (possibly the paparazzi Adnan Ghalib) – but if memory serves, this has been one of Britney's obsessions in a long time, as at one point in the past she also accused Lynne Spears of sleeping with her ex husband Kevin Federline. It took nearly two hours to have Britney admitted and after the initial evaluation she was given the "Gravely Disabled" status I was telling you about.

Well, now that Britney is in the hospital and getting help, you'd think that she's safe and out of harm's way – but it's not the case. And yes, I now officially blame some of Briney's madness (literal and figurative) on her family and entourage. The last thing Britney needs is yet another source of tension and conflict close to home, and yet that's exactly what is going on. There is a huge fight raging at the moment between Britney's parents and her shady friend Sam Lufti – and both sides want the same thing: control over the medical decisions taken with regard to Britney, which means effective control over Brit's life. Lawyers are apparently involved, and it's all turning ugly. Stay tuned and we'll keep you up to speed with all the developments. In the meantime, fingers crossed for Brit.
