Well, I lived to see this day... now I can pretty much die a peaceful death and go to hell quietly, my heart bursting with the joy of having seen a preview of Brit Brit's latest music video. And as much as I regret to say it, I feel a little bit like a food critic who went to a restaurant prepared to trash the
place, but ended up enjoying the food just a little bit. How confusing – not to mention infuriating – is that? I mean, you prepare your best pen, your notebook (which is basically a list of all the places you once trashed in your reviews and who probably ended up bankrupt because of you), you sit down at the table, take a bite and what happens? Instead of starting to write furiously about missing ingredients, badly paired flavors and the food being undercooked, you find yourself enjoying the taste.
That's about the closest metaphor I could find for me taking a look at the short preview of Britney's new video for "Piece of Me", her second single to be released from "Blackout". Now, before you start thinking that I have some sort of brain infection that makes me hallucinate and see things that are not really there, I must make a point of telling you that I don't particularly enjoy the "in your face" style that "Piece of Me" so proudly displays, because it reeks of hypocrisy. You see, this song is all about how Brit Brit hates the paparazzi and about how she's trying to "work and be a momma" - two things that are profoundly not true. We all know that Britney is a narcissistic drug addict who loves to go driving on her own with hordes of paparazzi in tow, who flatted her over-sized ego and paid for her gas and frappuccionos. As far as the parenting skills are concerned, that's an even bigger joke, since we all know that Brit is not a responsible parent at any possible level.
So, what is it about this video that surprised me? Well, first of all, the fact that Britney looks relatively clean and that she sports a weave and hairstyle that are among the best I've seen in her in years. Then, she looks fit – and that glittery bra (since it looks like she can't wear a full-length top) looks way better on her than that already infamous one she wore for the VMAs. Overall, she just looks a lot like her old self again – which is probably why I'm having a deja vu feeling and I can't bring myself to trash her. I'll reserve that right for when the full video is released. Kidding. I would be really happy to see Britney finally get one thing right, and although her album has long been doomed and there's absolutely no hope for it, it would be nice to get a glimpse of the old Britney – even if it would simply be for old times' sake. Take a look at the video preview below – we'll bring you the full video as soon as it's out.
