And there was me thinking Britney's mom was really keen on keeping herself out of the spotlight. I mean, I must confess, in recent months, I found myself wondering more and more what it must feel like, seeing your kid(s) rocket to international glory and then falling on their a*sess and sinking lower and lower on the whole "sex, drugs and alcohol" spiral. And I was really admiring Brit Brit's mother for keeping a low profile in the eyes of the media while at the same time trying to help as much as possible without making herself conspicuous. But no more.
I'm
sure Lynne Spears hasn't had the easiest time in the world, raising an over-infatuated stubborn piece of work like Britney – or rather, watching her daughter turn first into a worldwide singing sensation and then descending into drugs, getting married, having two babies in less than two years, getting a divorce and then losing control of her life little by little in an excruciatingly painful media circus. I'm sure there are many questions on Lynne's mind, and just like any parent, I'm sure she wants her daughter(s) to be safe and happy and true professionals – but I hardly expected her to want to cash in on this.
It has just been announced, however, that she will be cashing in on the whole "what has gone wrong in Britney's life" saga. I mean, from one point of view, it sort of makes sense to see the mother stepping out and giving her take on the whole mess. Everyone has an opinion about Britney, right? But the tell-all autobiography Lynne is working on is not called "Leave Britney Alone" or "How the Media Turned My Kid Into a Drugged-Out Idiot" - which, by the way, is not the case. However, what Lynne will be doing is detail the trials and tribulations of raising superstar children.
The memoir is due to be published by Thomas Nelson, a well-known Christian publisher and will be released in the spring of 2008. It aims to give readers and fans a revealing look into Lynne's "personal story" of turning Britney, 25, and Jamie Lynn, 16, into big-time celebs "while coming from a low-profile Louisiana community", OK! Magazine reveals.
Not a word about the current disaster, though – and it looks like it's a "head in the sand" policy for momma Spears. Is this a form of discretion? Since she's coming out with a book on Britney, that sort of goes out of the question from the start. Is she cashing in on the good times and keeping away from the bad times? Looks that way. Can you smell that? I think that is the smell of hypocrisy coming from another one of the Spears family members. I hope my nose is mistaken – although, honestly, I don't think it's the case. How sad.
