73-year-old Judith Bowen of Wootton, Beds in the UK may be the owner of the world's oldest unopened Easter egg.

She unwittingly held on to the chocolate egg since 1957, when she gave it to her mother as a gift, at 17 years old. She recovered it seven years ago between her belongings after she passed, Cambridge News details.

“I used to work at Irvine Air Chutes of Great Britain in Hertfordshire and one Thursday, after being paid, on my lunch break I went into a newsagent’s in the High Street in Letchworth and thought ‘I’ll buy mum one of those’ not for any special occasion, but just for a treat,” she remembers.

The egg had been made by Gold Star Hand Made Sweets in Saffron Walden in Essex, and it is quite beautifully and carefully packed.

While no Guinness record title for oldest Easter egg exists, Bowen's egg would be older than that presented by a Nuneaton resident two years ago and made 52 years ago.
