Video game publisher, Joyboost, best known for Spinword, is said to be sponsoring the 2007 British Matchplay Scrabble Championship (BMSC), the UK's leading Scrabble competition, that takes place in Yarnfield, (near Stafford) between August 25th - 27th. This year's winner will automatically enter the 2007 World Scrabble Championships in Mumbai.

Here's a piece of the original story: "The BMSC is the Association of British Scrabble Player's (ABSP) major annual competition. This year, as well the prestige championship trophy, the winner will also win an automatic entry to the 2007 World Scrabble Championships in Mumbai. As well as catering for regular tournament-goers in the marathon three-day event, there is also a special one-day tournament for newcomers on the 25th August."

But why, out of all the video game publishers out there, is Joyboost the one sponsoring such an event? Well, Joyboost is not only contributing money to the Championship prize fund, but it's also giving free copies of Spinword to the winners of each section. And since we're on the topic...:

Spinword is Joyboost's original new word creation game for the PC in which Players must use lettered tiles to create words of three or more letters as they float up from the bottom of the screen. The game allows players to build larger words out of smaller, simpler ones, challenging the player's vocabulary as well as their reflexes.

"We're thrilled to be sponsoring the British Matchplay Scrabble Championship," said Joyboost's Linda MacKellar. "One of the reasons Scrabble remains so popular is that every single game is different. The player's skill and word-power has a significant impact on how each game progresses. When we were designing Spinword, we wanted to capture the same elements. We think we've done that and we believe that Scrabble fans and gamers alike will find Spinword a game they can enjoy."

Allan Simmons, the ABSP's sponsorship officer and coordinator of the BMSC, agrees, "Scrabble is timeless and continues to attract new fans every year. The BMSC is one of the most significant events in the UK with an estimated 14,000 games being played by around 200 players. We're very pleased to have Joyboost on board as a sponsor of this year's competition."

Remember, the 2007 British Matchplay Scrabble Championship takes place in the Yarnfield Conference Centre, which this report insists that it's located "near Stafford." Want a piece of the action? Go on and register for the newcomers event right here!
