A British diplomat traveling to Romania took his own life by jumping from the seventh level of a hotel in the north-west part of the country. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the man, but despite their efforts they didn't manage to save the diplomat's life.

According to the official police statement, the 46-year-old British national, Ian Saunders, fell from the seventh level of a three-star hotel in the city of Baia Mare, yesterday afternoon. Officers are still trying to estimate the exact circumstances in which the incident occurred, notes Romanian publication Adevarul.

Most likely, the man committed suicide as he left a letter for his family saying Goodbye, on a table in his hotel room. Apparently, he was suffering from a severe depression and decided to end his life by throwing himself from the room's balcony. His struggle was too heavy to bear and despite causing suffering to his family Mr. Saunders decided to end it.

Investigators said that Ian Saunders was traveling on his free time and at that moment he was not in Romania with work-related issues. He was working for the Embassy of Great Britain in Bucharest and was visiting the city of Baia Mare on personal reasons.

Witnesses declared seeing the man at the balcony of his room looking like he was preparing to jump and they immediately alerted police officers and emergency services. After Ian plunged down from the seventh level of the building, the medical crew wasn't able to resuscitate him. They covered his body and moved it into a vehicle in order to get it away from the public's eyes.

The British citizen checked in the hotel on January 14 and committed suicide from the balcony of his room on the afternoon of January 16. The hotel was seven hours away from his work place in Bucharest and the reasons the man traveled to that particular city are still unknown.
