Fashion trends are for those who don’t have the courage to try to be different. Those who dare to stand out from the crowd can always try one of the designs from Annette Carey, who has just created a dress made of biro pens.
Carey was commissioned by BIC Cristal to make the dress for the company’s 60th anniversary. It will be displayed at the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising, West London, the
Daily Mail reports.
The dress took 13 hours a day to make and it’s guaranteed to fit like a glove to whoever has the guts to step out in it, the British designer says for the aforementioned publication.
It comes with 1,200 hand-sewn biros and lots of Swarovski crystals, so it’s also very valuable.
“It took 640 hours to sew all the Bic pens onto the extraordinary garment, which is also covered in 2,000 crystals and is worth around £10,000,” the Mail writes.
Despite being pretty heavy (it weighs about 8 pounds), the dress is wearable – and would do justice to someone
as edgy and cool as Lady Gaga, Carey points out.
“I wanted to create something incredible from the pens,” the designer says, adding that she tried to take something ordinary and turn it into high fashion. Mission accomplished.
“I took an everyday iconic object that everyone has probably used at least once and turned it in to something extremely beautiful,” she explains.
“It is designed to be worn and it would be perfect for someone who has a bit of a wild, edgier side,” Carey says of the ideal customer for the biro dress.
The model wearing it also offers some important tips to said ideal customer on how to wear the creation: with boots, black tights and a fancy, futuristic headpiece.
“I was thrilled to work with BIC in creating this anniversary dress. The main body of the dress is made of 100 per cent silk and tulle netting,” Carey adds.
