Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud reporting center, is warning the customers of British Airways about phishing emails. The emails appear to come from the [email protected] address and they inform recipients that their “order has been successfully processed.”

The bogus notifications contain all sorts of information – including departure date/time, booking reference, and prices – in order to appear more convincing. However, the links in the emails point to a malicious website.

Users who come across such emails are advised to report them to Action Fraud.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, remember that British Airways will never ask you to hand over personal or financial information in response to an email. The only scenario in which the airline might ask you for payment card details is if you want to change or refund your booking on the company’s website.

Finally, keep in mind that legitimate emails always contain the correct booking reference and they never originate from services like Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail.
