Today is definitely one of those crazy Brit Brit days in which you just read the news about her, go "What the..." and you just shrug and resign yourself to whatever new catastrophes she's bound to bring into our lives. And the fact is, if there was any doubt left in your minds that Brit is just about the craziest person in this world, today just serves as a reminder. I was trying hard to remember that clich about reality being better than fiction - well, you pretty much get the perfect illustration here.
Yesterday, Brit and her ex hubby Kevin Federline were due to appear before the judge again in connection to their bitter custody battle. The courtroom face-off took a long-expected if somewhat abrupt turn on Monday when the same judge stripped Brit of her physical custody privileges and ordered her to hand her two boys over to K-Fed until further notice. Well, the "further notice" part went on yesterday, but surprise - whereas K-Fed and his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan showed up in court on time, Britney didn't think it was worth her while to do the same.
And so, like in an epic movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, while Kevin Federline went to court to fight for his kids, Britney took her dog for a ride to get some coffee. Talk about priorities. The fact is, if Brit Brit had even the slightest chance of getting back shared custody of her sons, she gracefully wasted it yesterday by not even bothering to show up before the judge.
In fact, she was engaged in much more interesting activities. She reportedly left her Malibu home in the afternoon and drove down the 101 Freeway, through Coldwater Canyon, and then went to Starbucks, with her paparazzi escort in tow. After making sure that the photographers all got a good look at her, for some strange reason she then went to a nearby Shell gas station, only to pose for more pictures. Finally, she went back to her other home at the top of Mulholland Drive.
Britney's new lawyer was therefore left to argue that the ruling on Monday was unfair - in the absence of his client, which probably told the judge everything he wanted to know. Despite Brit's side asking for 50/50 custody arrangements to be reinstated, the judge wouldn't have any of it - and for good reason. I mean, if you were about to consider giving young children back to a mother who instead of showing up in court goes for a ride in order to make sure she's photographed, what would you decide? Yeah, thought so.
The next hearings are scheduled for October 26th and November 26th - and Brit better move her a*s to court on those dates. But judging by what went down so far, I doubt she'll do it. There will probably be a very nice wig sale on somewhere in Arizona at that time and she won't want to miss it.
