She’s not homophobic, publicist says, after video emerges online

Bristol Palin has landed herself in hot waters again, though she did nothing else than, as her rep puts it, come to her mother’s defense. After an outing of bull-riding in West Hollywood the other night, Bristol confronted a heckler.

TMZ has video of the confrontation, which we can’t embed because it has very strong language.

After she was thrown off the mechanical bull, as she was about to get up, Bristol was heckled because of her mom. “You’re mom’s a [expletive]!” one man shouted.

Paparazzi cameras followed her as she went up to the man, tapped him on the shoulder and politely inquired, “Excuse me, sir, what did you say?”

“Your mother’s a [expletive]. She’s the [expletive]-ing devil, dude,” the man yells back at her. He can’t say exactly what Sarah Palin did so wrong for him to call her that, but he thinks generalization could as well serve the purpose.

“She lives, she breathes. If there is a hell, she will be there. She’s evil,” he says.

This is where Bristol made a connection that will immediately land her in the aforementioned hot waters. “Is it because you’re a homosexual? Because I can just tell you are. And that’s why you don’t like my mom,” she asks.

While there’s no denying that Bristol, unlike the heckler, handed herself with class, the implication that he didn’t like her mother’s political views because of his orientation spells being anti-gay, voices were saying online minutes after the incident took place.

TMZ also reached out to Bristol’s spokesperson for some form of explanation – and, as expected, he says she didn’t mean it that way.

“[She] was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother. Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family,” the rep says.

“The situation ended with no incident, and accusing her of homophobia is completely unfounded and totally misstates her views,” the statement further says.

The heckler has apologizes too for his behavior, saying he chose the wrong approach, while insisting that the confrontation was not staged for the cameras (Bristol is shooting her own show). He’s still bugged about that gay comment, though.
