Let your desktop taste joy, mystery, and aristocratic decadence

Carnivals are always reasons for joy, especially for those people who managed to take part in the action when all streets have turned into one large masked ball.

This applies to some of the largest carnivals in the world, such as the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and the one in Venice.

Both of them involve public celebrations and parades, and people often dress up or masquerade during these celebrations.

Of course, not all of us get the chance to be present at these public manifestations, for various reasons.

Today, those who run Windows 7 on their desktop computers can get a taste of the Carnival right on their desktops, courtesy of a new theme coming from Microsoft.

“Bring a note of joy, mystery, and aristocratic decadence to your desktop with this free theme for Windows 7,” the theme’s description reads.

“Evoking Mardi Gras and the great Carnivals in Rio de Janeiro and Venice, the masks in this theme are elaborately festooned with feathers, bells, and glitter.”

It might not be the real thing, but it will still allow you to plunge into the world of masks that the said Carnivals bring to life each and every year.

The Rio de Janeiro Carnival is the largest such manifestation in the world, at least this is what the Guinness Book of World Records 2010 says.

The Carnival in Venice is said to be have been a yearly tradition for almost a thousand years and is one of the most renowned in Europe.

The new Masquerade Theme was made available for download with support for all computers that run under Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions.

However, the theme should work without problems on PCs running under the Windows 8 Developer Preview platform that Microsoft made available for the public in September last year.
