It will be like having the very sun on your wall

We could probably make a lot of jokes about hungover or otherwise indisposed people being woken up early in the day and shouting for people to turn off the light, not realizing it's the sun that they're antagonizing.

The Sunn Light from (you got it) Sunn is about as close as you'll ever be able to get in your quest to emulate the Looney Toons.

You won't be able to get it to shut off just by shouting “turn off that light!” like Bugs Bunny did once upon a time.

However, you'll be able to pretend you did by being close enough to the light switch to flip it off the very same moment you yell that. Or you could just enjoy the phases of the sun in peace. That too.

The Sunn Light is a wall-mounted sun

Being out in the sun is great, but only during summer or particularly warm spring and autumn days. The rest of the time, it can be too chilly. Unless you live around the tropics or nearer the equator, but that's neither here nor there.

For those who want to spend their time in the comfort of their homes but still want to at least pretend they can enjoy the sun's existence, Sunn Light comes into play.

The smart LED light fixture is capable of changing its level of brightness automatically during the day, based on the natural passage of the sun.

The imitation promises to be quite accurate, as the Sunn Light uses Bluetooth to connect to an iOS or Android device (smartphone or tablet) and retrieve the latitude and longitude from an app.

Shaking the smartphone during the night will activate a midnight mode as well, which offers weak but sufficient illumination in case you need to respond to an emergency without being blinded by a sudden change in light intensity.

Speaking of which, the maximum output of the Sunn Light is of 3,300 or 5,500 lumens. There are two sizes that the Sunn Light can be sold in, you see, with diameters of 486 mm / 19 inches and 600 mm / 24 inches. The former has 240 LEDs, while the latter features 330. The only thing the Sunn Light can't do is actually move on the wall or ceiling.

Finally, the companion app can take charge of Philips' hue and the LIFX lighting systems, so you don't actually need to buy this specific light to enjoy the atmosphere. Or you can buy it and integrate it into your existing setup.

Availability and pricing

The Sunn Light isn't up for sale yet, but it will be once the Kickstarter Campaign concludes, since the funding goal has been exceeded by a lot already. The minimum pledge is of $289 / €231 and deliveries will start in April 2015.
