Google has announced the third edition of the Google Science Fair which challenges kids around the world to come up with interesting experiments and ideas. The competition, organized by Google along with CERN, LEGO, National Geographic and Scientific American, is now underway and kids can submit their ideas.

"For the past two years, thousands of students from more than 90 countries have submitted research projects that address some of the most challenging problems we face today," Google explained.

"Previous winners tackled issues such as the early diagnosis of breast cancer, improving the experience of listening to music for people with hearing loss and cataloguing the ecosystem found in water," it added.

Students aged 13 to 18 will have until April 30 to submit their ideas. Out of all the submissions, 90 finalists, 30 for each region, the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe/Middle East/Africa, will be chosen in June.

Of those, a jury will pick 15 finalists who will participate in the event held at Google's headquarters. Winners for age groups will be chosen as well as the grand prize winner. There will also be a public award and another prize sponsored by Scientific American.

The big winner will get a $50,000, €37,000 scholarship as well as a trip to the Galapagos with National Geographic Expeditions and a visit at Google, CERN or LEGO.
