The anatomically correct statue was taken down hours after being installed on a pedestal

This past Tuesday morning, folks in the city of Vancouver in British Columbia had the shock of a lifetime when they woke up to find that, during nighttime, somebody had installed a ginormous Satan statue on a pedestal close to a local train station.

The statue, a photo of which is available next to this article, stood about 9 feet (2.75 meters) tall. It showed the Hell Lord making the heavy metal sign with his right hand, and horns and bright-red skin were part of the package deal.

As if the creepy yellow eyes, the black and freakishly pointy nails, the elongated black horns, and the tail were not enough to really scare the bejeezus out of Vancouver residents, the statue had one other feature that really made it stand out.

It a nutshell, it was anatomically correct. Thus, this Satan statue came complete with a male appendage that was on full display. According to the people who had the chance to take one good look at it, this one body part was pretty impressive size-wise.

Location, location, location

It's still unclear who it was that made this statue and then placed it on the pedestal that, up until 10 years ago, accommodated for a statue of Christopher Columbus, but what is as clear as day is that they put quite a lot of thought into picking and choosing the perfect location for their work of art.

As mentioned, the statue was installed not far from Vancouver's Clark Drive SkyTrain Station. What's more, it was set in place in the proximity of a busy road, thus guaranteeing that commuters would notice it when on their way to work.

Not the longest-lasting work of art

Just hours after assuming position on the pedestal, the Satan statue was taken down by city workers. According to New York Daily News, it was simply pushed down the pedestal, and then disposed of. Not at all surprisingly, the people who got rid of it didn't exactly have fun doing it.

Talking to the press, spokesperson Sara Couper explained that the statue was taken down because it had not legally been mounted on the pedestal. “The statue was not a piece of City commissioned artwork and consequently it has been removed,” her exact words were.

Reactions to this little stunt

Most of the people in Vancouver are happy that the statue is no longer on display. Interestingly enough, there are some who demand that it be put back on the pedestal. In fact, some have even been as bold as to start an online petition asking that high officials in this part of Canada return Satan to his rightful place as soon as possible.

“The should be reinstalled as a piece of public art and serve as a reminder that art is in the eye of the beholder and nothing more,” the petition reads. Furthermore, “It simply cost its creator(s?) time and energy to construct and install with no thought of monetary gain, especially from the public purse.”

The petition has until now been signed by nearly 1,000 people. Still, chances are that, unless these folks have been smart enough to sacrifice a fuzzy animal before asking that the statue be returned to the pedestal, high officials in Vancouver will not give into their demands.
