The effort is progressing well because of lack of oversight

Brian Fargo, who is the main developer working on Wasteland 2, has revealed that a lack of corporate control and interference is doing wonders for his game project.

Speaking at the Unite conference he stated, “We’ve been working on Wasteland 2 for about 100 days, with no distractions from any kind of corporate overlord. We have hundreds of pages of design done, we have our first music in, we have our basic UI up-and-running, and we’ve taken our first screenshots.”

He added, “The bottom line is that, without any interruption" the project is doing better than it would have had with an involved publisher.

Wastelands 2 will revive the game universe that served as the inspiration from Fallout and will update the art style and the core gameplay concepts.

The game was financed exclusively via the crowsourcing Kickstarter service and the effort was so successful that it allowed Fargo to bring in the Obsidian team to help him with Wasteland 2 development.
