Never Mind the Anabolics

is the name of the first beer that has the effects of an energy drink.

This original product is a 6.5% India Pale Ale with some “special” ingredients. The beer was produced by Scottish brewery BrewDog and is currently served in London, at the Camden pub.

This limited edition was created before the London Olympics in 2012. Some of its ingredients were banned from consumption by the athletes at the Olympics.

Johnny Bright, BrewDog Bar manager, explained to NTDTV that the product contains creatine, guarana, ginseng, gingo, maca powder, matcha tea, kola nut and caffeine, all performance enhancing substances that give this beer the effects of an energy drink.

"The idea behind it is it's loaded with all the performance enhancing drugs you need as a professional athlete taking part in the Olympics. So you know if you're lacking a little bit in some departments, you know you're maybe the bronze level and you want to reach the silver and gold, get yourself a few bottles of this, pop into the bar and have it on draught and it's going to pump you full of all the things you're going to need," Mr. Bright said.

The makers of the micro brewed beer considered this a manifesto against Olympic sponsorships and corporate culture in general.

“It seems a beer laced with performance enhancing ingredients isn’t actually illegal, but it is definitely frowned upon. Never Mind the Anabolics is a thorn in the side of the biggest corporate beast spawned this century,” Brewdog co-founder James Watt added.

If you bring in a glass or bottle of “corporate” beer, it will be exchanged with a glass of BrewDog's own product, giving you the opportunity of fighting the “corporate beast” while enjoying quality dark ale.

In case you're not in London, you have the option of ordering the beer online.
