Bret Michaels’ health issues are well-known but, given how serious they were, it’s not really that much of a wonder. The rocker is now suing the Tony Awards and CBS on claims that the brain hemorrhage that nearly killed him could have been easily prevented.

Back in 2009, after performing at the opening of the Tony Awards, Michaels was hit in the head by a piece of scenery that came down, as per his own words, sooner than planned.

The video below will also confirm that the bump was powerful enough to knock him down. Months later, the star was rushed to the hospital with brain hemorrhage and, as TMZ informs, Michaels insists it was no coincidence.

In other words, the rocker claims the incident at the Tonys could have easily cost him his life because it developed into the brain hemorrhage that nearly killed him.

Moreover, producers of the awards show were informed of the severity of the injury he sustained, yet they did nothing in terms of claiming responsibility for it, he says.

“Michaels has filed a lawsuit against Tony Award Productions, CBS and others, blaming producers for not instructing him on how to safely exit the stage after his performance was over, because while he tried to exit, he was ‘smacked’ in the face by a piece of the set,” TMZ writes.

After the incident, Michaels was hospitalized for a broken nose and lip – but he also made sure photos of the injuries he sustained got out online, by posting them on various channels (see attached photo).

Now, the rocker insists it was this particular incident that caused the brain hemorrhage that landed him in hospital in April 2010.

“One of the most common causes of this type of hemorrhage is head trauma – exactly like the one Michaels suffered at the hands of the Tony Awards,” court documents read.

“Through his sheer will to live, to see his children grow up, [he] was able to survive this trauma,” the same papers say.

“Bret says producers have ‘failed and refused’ to remedy the situation... and even blamed him for the mishap at the Tony Awards, claiming he ‘missed his mark’,” TMZ adds.

In the same lawsuit, Michaels is asking for unspecified damages. Reps for the Tony Awards and CBS were not immediately available for comment on this.
