A sound system like no other

Counting all the sound systems one meets during just one hour of Internet surfing is a hard job; from the tiniest ones to the big, bulky and wall-shaking hi-complexity arrays, everything is out there. With pretty much the same features and a design revolving around few concepts everybody makes use of, these sound systems can meet your needs in case you're looking for the common thing. But if you're thinking big and green while searching for something that's way out of the ordinary, you need to look somewhere else.

One of these "somewhere else" places is the world of designer Victor Vetterlein, an American with a different point of view when it comes to delivering sound from less traditional objects.

No, it's not about a Halloween pumpkin speaker, but we're proudly introducing to you YO, a "go green" sound system for which the laws of physics seem rather obsolete, at least in terms of equilibrium. The YO is a 2-speaker/1 dock system, pretty much like anything else. Yet the shapes created by Victor Vetterlein are nothing you'd ever expect from such a gadget: fluid, almost organic curves follow an inherent need for naturalness.

While the docking base comes in a traditional polyhedral shape, the speakers are most intriguing, with their water drop-inspired design. And there is more to them: they can stand up in an almost surreal stance that laughs in the face of what you used to call "equilibrium." Now, the rechargeable batteries placed in the bottom of the speaker structures do all the humpty-dumpty trick and keep the two stereo speakers in an upright position that is (still) hard to believe.

The uncanny design of the speaker cabinets helps amplify the sound produced by the drivers and give it a bit more chunkiness as well as a richer character, even if the brush-shape is rather unsure on the sound dynamics side... Of course, the speakers are wirelessly connected to the main base and they can receive streams coming from a docked iPod or from any other digital player connected to the 3.5mm stereo Aux In jack.

The two units can also be connected using two supplied rods, providing a lifting handle when the YO has to be carried. Victor Vetterlein's design is waterproof and was intended to be used with various sources of green energy like, solar power, wind power or hydroelectricity. Though still in the project phase, the YO could make for a neat presence in a modern house.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
