Kedebe-F

The virus writers seem to have a very active imagination, and they use it for all the wrong reasons, trying to infect as many computers as possible. And one of their favorite targets is represented by the thrill seekers, people who are curious enough to open e-mails with very appealing titles, but which contain something completely different than expected.

The researchers from the British security company Sophos have issued a warning regarding the emergence of a new type of e-mail-spreading worm, called Kedebe-F, which tempts the user with a variety of "breaking news", ranging from information regarding the death of Pope John Paul to announcements regarding Michael Jackson's death, the capture of Osama Bin Laden by US troops or the arrest of MyDoom's author by Microsoft's agents.

This "breaking news" method is one of the hackers' favorites, since, despite all the warnings, there are still quite a lot of users that fall for it.

The worm spreads via e-mail or peer-to-peer file sharing networks. Also, it spreads on P-to-P networks by copying itself to the directory for sharing information on the server, purporting to be source code for the Sasser worm.

Although the worm is spreading relatively slowly, Sophos says that all the users should be careful and also update their antivirus programs, in order to keep out of harm's way.
