Breaking: Britney Attempts Suicide! UPDATE: Britney Committed!

She's finally reached the point of no return

The inevitable seems to have finally happened: X17Online reports exclusively that Britney Spears just tried to commit suicide. No news yet on exactly what is going on, what Britney tried to do to herself or her current condition, but other media outlets report that chaos is currently raging at Brit's Beverly Hills mansion, where two police cars are said to be blocking the entrance to the gated community.

There is also an ambulance there and a crowd of paparazzi, along with news vans and helicopters. Britney's mother Lynne - who has been in Los Angeles over the past few days - is said to have rushed to her daughter's side. Britney's shady friend Sam Lufti is also said to be at Brit's house, as is Brit's cousin Alli. No idea on what's going on in there yet, but I am sure we'll soon find out - and we'll be keeping you up to speed. In the meantime, here's more detailed background information on exactly how screwed up Britney's life has been over the past few days. More than usual, that is.

The first thing I can say is that I really hope Briney hasn't done anything serious to herself, but that this crisis - which again, I hope is not too serious - will make her realize that she needs professional help, fast. It would be a true tragedy if Britney died right now, but I am sorry to say that it would not be a shock to anyone - especially since the former star's life has been going downhill fast ever since she locked herself in the bathroom with her youngest son and refused to hand him over to her ex husband.

I wont's say "I told you so" because journalists and bloggers everywhere have been speculating about Britney's death for longer than a month - and every possible scenario has been played out in excruciating detail. But I think that - given Britney's latest antics and the fact that she hadn't slept in over two days - attempted suicide was the next step down a road that can't lead anywhere good.

We'll be bringing you updates on the Britney situation as soon as they're available. All I can say for now is that I hope Britney's OK and that maybe this latest meltdown will give her parents enough reasons to have her committed and subjected to serious treatment as soon as possible. Maybe even without Britney's express consent. Stay tuned for more news.

UPDATE #1

PerezHilton reports that the psychiatrist who has been monitoring Britney's condition over the past weeks is at her home right now and is planning to have Britney committed to a mental facility straight away. At long last, the popwreck will get the help she needs and will hopefully get better in time. Keep refreshing for the latest updates.

UPDATE #2

The police were called to Brit's house by her psychiatrist, who apparently demanded that the singer be committed under another 5150 hold (which means that she's considered to be a danger to herself and to others). Britney's mother Lynne is reportedly extremely upset with the psychiatrist and is opposing the plans to have her daughter committed. TMZ reports there is "extreme tension inside the house". More updates coming.

UPDATE #3
It has just been confirmed that Britney is being taken to UCLA Medical Center by ambulance as we speak. She is - again - under a 5150 hold. It's her second time in a psych ward in less than a month. Hopefully, she won't be out in less than two days like it happened last time. Good thing they changed the hospital. Apparently, Brit Brit went willingly - but I have a little trouble believing that. Stay tuned.

UPDATE #4

The L.A.Times has just posted a story that seems to make sense of last night's events. "Authorities said the welfare hold was prompted by a telephone call they received from Spear's psychiatrist. It was unclear exactly when they had received the call, but it was apparent that the operation had been carefully planned over a period of time. Unlike the first welfare hold - in which Spears' ambulance was closely pursued by a throng of photographers - vehicles today were blocked from following the same route. The motorcade that whisked Spears to the hospital also showed a large investment in resources. The line of emergency vehicles stretched longer than a football field". It seems that Britney's hospital committment was carefully planned in advance - no word yet on whether she really did try to commit suicide.
