New episodes will start shooting in January 2015, Walter White is not dead

The Internet can be a very dangerous place if you believe everything you see here. Besides the very serious cases of fraud and crime that can be committed online, there is also the case of the heartbreak experienced by fans when reading about their favorite shows and celebrities.

Whether they’re about celebrities who have met an untimely and very tragic and / or painful death, or about defunct projects that will be brought back on the small screen, Internet hoaxes are a thing. And they’re getting better and more convincing with each round.

Take for instance the most recent one on the National Report, about the now-defunct hit show “Breaking Bad,” which aired on AMC and cleaned the Emmys on Monday night, at the 2014 edition. It claims that series creator Vince Gilligan has confirmed season 6, which starts shooting in January this year.

Apparently, Walter White is not dead, and after due consideration and talking to his 2 leading men, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, Gilligan has decided to bring him and the gang back for another season. This time, it will be the last, he is quoted as saying.

“We’ve kept it under wraps for months, now the cat’s out of the bag. Season 6 is coming, and it’s going to be epic and true to the fans that have followed the show so incessantly,” Gilligan reportedly said.

“I just couldn’t walk away from it. This isn’t a cash-grab or a sophomoric attempt to bastardize what was such a beautiful ending to season 5. I’ve invested so much of myself in these characters that I’d always had an inkling I’d return to it, even outside [the] Better Call Saul [spinoff]. The kicker was I’d need a spark, something that made it make sense for these stories to continue,” he was quoted as saying.

No doubt, the story is timed to capitalize on the boost of interest in the show following the spectacular run at the Emmys 2014. The worst part is that it’s riddled with links to reputable sources, like CNN and MSNBC, which allegedly also carry confirmation for the amazing piece of news.

The links lead where they’re supposed to, but there’s no story on “Breaking Bad” season 6 there for a very simple reason: there is no season 6 for the series. It ended with season 5 and no one, not Gilligan or Cranston or AMC, has any intention of bringing it back to life because that story was told just the way it was supposed to be told.

National Report describes itself as “America’s #1 independent news source” but it’s actually a publication that deals in satirical pieces posing as legitimate news stories. So no wonder “Breaking Bad” fans swallowed this one hook, line and sinker, when it seems such a convincing piece.

The piece has also garnered a lot of attention on social media, prompting a heated debate among fans on whether it’s a smart choice for Gilligan and AMC to bring the series back for fresh episodes or not. So here’s this: stop arguing about it because it’s not happening. It might be heartbreaking to hear it, but “Breaking Bad” is over.
