Brazil and Argentina have joined forces in an effort to enhance their cyber defense capabilities. The decision comes in light of evidence that US intelligence agencies have been busy spying on the communications of Latin America officials.

Last Friday, the Defense Ministries of both Argentina and Brazil signed a military cooperation pact. As per the agreement, in 2014, Brazil will provide cyber defense training to officers in Argentina, The Hindu reports.

“We need to reflect on how we cooperate to face these new forms of attack,” commented Brazil’s Defense Minister Celso Amorim.

The countries will also start sharing information for developing joint cyber defense projects. These projects will be backed by the software industry from both sides.

Celso’s Argentinian counterpart, Agustin Rossi noted, “We have established that we will hold a meeting in Brasilia before the end of the year to intensify our complementarity in the matter of cyber defense.”

“This system of spying ... warrants, besides the individual efforts that each of our country makes, a complementarity that allows us to diminish situations of vulnerability,” he added.
