Sixteen passengers have been kicked out after participating in a massive brawl on a transit train in New Jersey over the weekend, sources say.

A transit train conductor has been forced to perform an unscheduled stop in East Rutherford after a fight broke out on Saturday, March 16.

NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. tells the NJ Star Ledger that an express train traveling to Bergen and Port Jervis was stopped at approximately 4:20 p.m.

10 minutes after departure from Secaucus, police were called in at the East Rutherford location and were prompted to put an end to the fight.

Two people have been summoned for disorderly conduct and sixteen others have been evacuated without being charged. North Jersey describes that police have made no arrests in the case.

Emergency medical staff was called in to assist one passenger that incurred minor injuries during the melee. None of the other participants in the brawl has reported serious wounds, The Epoch Times informs.

The five-car train was sent on its way 20 minutes after law enforcement officials arrived at the scene, without impacting train traffic in the area.

While there is no information on what caused the fight, alcohol consumption during St Patrick's Day celebrations might have been a factor.

New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety director, Gary Poedubicky warned about the dangers of consuming large amounts of alcohol on St Patrick's in a statement, encouraging partygoers to use mass transit or choose a designated driver.

“Whether you are gathering with friends at the local pub or attending a parade, if alcohol is part of the festivities, make sure you designate a sober driver to get you home safely.

“You’ll not only be ensuring your safety, but the safety of everyone else who is sharing the road with you,” Poedubicky says.
