The spiritual successor to Squar Enix's Final Fantasy 4: The 4 Heroes of Light, Bravely Default, surpassed the one million units sold milestone, according to the Japanese company.

The news comes from Square Enix's internal data, via the Bravely Default Twitter account, informing that the role-playing game managed to sell 400k units inside Japan, and over 600k internationally.

The game got off to a great start on the North American market, with over 200k units being sold in the first month of availability alone.

The Nintendo 3DS exclusive tactical role-playing game is Square Enix's most hardcore game in a while, receiving widespread acclaim from both players and critics, and its success made the company question whether the decision to simplify its games in order to make them appeal to a larger audience was indeed the way to go for future releases.

Square Enix is currently working on Bravely Second, a sequel for the 3DS game, but for now the game has no prospective release date, and no other pertinent information concerning it is available yet.

The game's success likely means that a localization for its sequel will also happen, and will most probably arrive faster than the full year it took for the first installment in the series to head West.
