Coming to confirm that money and fame can't possibly buy happiness, singer Brandy reveals that, for a very long time, she struggled with an eating disorder brought on by her obsession with being thin. See her admission in the video below.

Brandy was the focus of the latest edition of VH1's Behind the Music and, among other things, she also talked about how fame at an early age had devastating consequences for her.

You can see the full episode below, in the video embedded at the end of the article.

“I wanted to be so thin. That was my main thing,” she recalls of the days when she was the biggest young thing on the scene.

It didn't matter what route she took to being slim because she was willing to do anything, even if that really put her health in danger.

“So I started not taking care of myself – not eating properly, not eating at all, diet pills, regurgitating, and all of these things that girls do,” the star reveals.

She believes her obsession with her weight was deeply rooted in her insecurities, which always led her to think she was not good enough – and probably would never be no matter what she did.

“People don't understand that being the hottest star or making the most money does not mean anything,” Brandy shares.

“I'm here to tell you I was making so much money – I was omnipresent – and I was the loneliest teenager probably in the world,” adds the star.

Her friend Shay Calhoun agrees, telling the camera that even people close to Brandy had trouble believing she was having such a hard time, when she apparently had everything she could have wanted in life.

“On the outside everybody saw this amazing person who had everything, but that's not what she saw when she looked in the mirror. She felt she was never as good as everyone else thought she was,” Shay says.

In the episode, Brandy also talks about her broken heart, her pregnancy and fake “marriage” and, of course, music.
