“Killing Them Softly” is one of those films that has been keeping movie buffs talking for months but wider audiences still have a way to go until being able to see it in theaters.

Initially scheduled for US theatrical release on October 19, the mobster movie with serious political undertones has just been pushed back to November.

The reason, as always, is to give it better odds at the box office and on the awards circuit, as Harvey Weinstein explains for Deadline.

“In this industry it is a very rare event to look at a weekend where your movie could open as the only wide release picture. November 30 will allow us to bring Killing Them Softly to a wide audience without competition,” he says.

“Additionally, the critical response to the movie has been very favorable especially on the amazing performances and November 30 positions us better in the Awards season calendar,” Weinstein adds.

“Killing Them Softly” is directed by Andrew Dominik and sees Brad Pitt in the role of a mob enforcer with a very unique approach to his work, hence the film’s title.
