The other day, all hell broke loose as word got out that Brad Pitt's mother, Jane Pitt, had written an open letter to a local newspaper, urging Christians to vote against abortion, same-gender marriage and Obama by voting for Romney. Doug Pitt, Brad's brother, is now speaking out on the issue.

Doug, a very successful local businessman and philanthropist, appeared on The Today Show with Matt Lauer to promote his latest endorsement, for Virgin Mobile Australia and, at the same time, address some topics of lots of interest.

As expected, one of them was his mother's letter in support of Romney and against everything else her other son, Brad, publicly supports.

Video of the segment is below.

Children and parents have been disagreeing for centuries on lots of things, Doug says, so he sees no reason why his family should be different in that respect.

“Moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world, so why would our family be any different? There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you, and I think there should be,” he tells Lauer.

“The bad thing is when it turns into venom and negativity and we don't have that in our family. It's open discussion, we can learn from each other... maybe you learn something,” Doug adds.

In the same interview, he talks about his gig with the mobile carrier and how the ad took even him and his family by surprise, because they didn't expect it to be so hilarious.

It was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and it came out precisely that. Brad too has seen it – and liked it, Doug says.

He also opens up to Lauer about what it's like to be the brother of the most famous man on earth, how he deals with the attention he gets because of that and, of course, whether he'd ever trade places with Brad if only for a week.

Just like his A-list brother, Doug comes across as very nice, soft-spoken and polite – check out the video below to see for yourself.
