Brad Pitt is a very fashionable man but his latest “accessory” has nothing to do with fashion. On the red carpet at the Palm Springs Film Festival, the actor made a grand entrance with Angelina Jolie on his arm and a can in another.

He'd already been seen the previous day out and about, sporting the same cane, so word that he'd suffered an injury spread very fast.

Brad himself spoke to People magazine about it, explaining that he'd taken a fall at home and had sprained his knee.

“The actor, 48, walked the red carpet at the 23nd annual Palm Springs Film Festival awards gala with the cane on Saturday, and told reporters he has an injured ACL, a ligament in the knee that connects the femur with the tibia,” People reports.

Asked how the accident took place, Brad revealed that he'd slipped while carrying one of his daughters, so he chose to fall in such a way as to protect her.

“I was carrying my daughter [Vivienne] down the hill and I slipped. It was either her or me,” Brad told People about what had happened.

He revealed that surgery was not necessary, but he would still have to walk with a cane for a while longer, which, odd as it might seem, doesn't bother partner Angelina in the least bit.

“I like the cane,” she said, adding that the injury hadn't impacted Brad's life in any significant way. “He's not that kind of guy. He does everything still,” she said.

“Vivie's okay. She was absolutely fine,” Angelina further told reporters, pressured for more details about the incident.

For those fans who feel their heart sink when they see Brad and Angie on the red carpet with Brad walking with the help of a cane, fret not: once he's fully recuperated, the A-list couple will be back to its A-list game come the awards season – and especially the Oscars 2012.
