A 12-year-old boy has come across a sharp metal blade in a bag of M&M's candy he got on Halloween. He received the candy from a neighbor when he went trick-or-treating.

Matthew Hernley tells CBS Pittsburgh that he has no idea about the provenience of the candy. He got M&M's from a lot of his neighbors.

His mother, Lydia Nelson, adds that her other three kids, a 5-year-old and 6-year-old twins, all swallow the sweets without looking inside the bag.

She brought the issue to Scottdale, Pennsylvania police, and they concluded that a "manufacturing issue" had been the cause of the incident. The bag did not appear to have been tampered with when they examined it.

Mars Chocolate North America have issued an apology and stress their concern for customer safety, Huffington Post reported.
