A nice, but not yet all that feature rich, alternative to cable DVRs

In mid-November, Boxee announced us that it was working on a TV tuner dongle for its popular Boxee Box media player.

Now, two months later, the outfit has finally released this USB TV tuner, enabling Boxee Box owners everywhere to gain access to TV programming sent over-the-air using the ATSC standard.

Installing the Boxee Live dongle is as easy as it gets, since after being plugged in the media player together with the bundled antenna, it adds a “Live TV” option to the Boxee UI complete with electronic program guides.

The only downside right now is that Boxee hasn’t added any sort of DVR/PVR support to its dongle, so you can’t even pause a live show, but the company is at least considering adding such an option in a future update.

For now, the Boxee Live TV tuner is available in US and Canada for $49 US (38 EUR).
