Although it hasn't passed more than two weeks since the very first users got a hold of their Boxee Box units, the company is already releasing the first firmware update for their media streamer that addresses many of the issues that early adopters have encountered with their Boxee, including 1080i playback browser playback.

Going through the impressive list of bug fixes available on the Boxee Blog, this firmware addresses issues encountered with media playback, wireless connectivity, network shares as well as other features, Boxee also adding a few improvements to these units.

Taking a quick glance through the list provided one quickly notices the new firmware now supports .mkv with header compression file playback as well as user selectable slideshows for the screensaver, Boxee also enabling external subtitles for Blu-Ray and DVD iso/folders.

Apart from these new features, various bug fixes are mentioned that address problems encountered by users with 1080i playback in the browser, HD .avi low fps, stuttering while playing some Blu-Ray content, WiFi signal and encryption, connecting to Windows 7 and MAC OS X network shares, TV OSD problems as well as other issues.

Although the list seems pretty complete, Boxee CEO Avner Ronen promises the company will release a list with all the user interface issues that are still to be addressed sometime next week.

According to engadget, other updates the are bound to hit before 2010 ends will feature Netflix and VUDU apps, Boxee recently announcing support for a wider range of on-demand content services.

According to the company, the 1.0.1.16319 firmware is already available for download, the Boxee automatically checking every 24 hours for new updates.

However, if you feel that you can't wait that long, the update procedure can also be started manually by going to Settings> System> Update and clicking the Check for New Version of Boxee button.
