Boxee, the software application that gives you a true entertainment experience to enjoy your movies, TV shows, music and photos, has just received a mighty important update. Mac users can download the new software immediately, for free, and get dual-screen support, Netflix streaming improvements, search in Hulu and more.

Although the people at Hulu have requested Boxee's developers to remove support for the streaming service, the latest update to the Boxee Mac client adds the ability to search in Hulu. No mentioning is made regarding any streaming capabilities, though. Additional enhancements include dual screen support; ffwd, rewind, pause in Comedy Central; improved mouse support; 3 digit episode numbers recognized; giving folder.jpg its proper priority; updates to SMB library; updates to video and audio playback libraries; plus updates to Flash Player.

After installing Boxee on your Mac, the application scans and adds all your media to its library. Then, it starts looking up any artwork that the media might have attached to it, such as an album cover. If it can find reviews, trailers, and lyrics that are associated with your content, Boxee will bring those up, too.

Boxee plays any non-DRM media, and it's compatible with nearly all file formats, including high definition (HD) videos. If you want to share media with others, you can do so through the Boxee UI, as the app integrates with your twitter, or tumbler account. You can play files from your hard drive, network, or you can stream content from the likes of YouTube and flickr. Best of all, Boxee has remote control support. Also, Boxee is open source; therefore, anyone can develop new applications and channels within the interface.

The folks at Boxee have also announced a free remote application for using the Boxee entertainment solution on the Apple TV via iPhone or iPod touch. The app is aimed at those who've misplaced / lost / damaged or simply don't like the Apple Remote that ships with every new Apple TV and iMac.
