Cloud storage provider Box is one of the big names that you probably haven't heard about. That's because it's more focused on business contracts and because, up until recently, it didn't offer a desktop or mobile app. Box is still quite popular though, especially since it offers an impressive API.

Now, it's trying to entice more users and customers with an improvement in upload speeds thanks to several new locations around the world and a smarter way of routing transfers.

It dubs the technology Box Accelerator. Basically, Box has rented out space in data centers in several key points around the world.

It has one location in Europe, one in Australia and South America and three in Asia.

"A combination of new infrastructure in nine locations throughout the world and innovative network intelligence software, Box Accelerator delivers performance enhancements and a better user experience – with all the trusted security and reliability you love about Box," the company wrote.

Users, instead of connecting directing to the Box HQ data center, via the patchwork of networks that is the internet, connect to the closest Box location.

From there, Box uses a direct link to its data center and solid internet connections to ensure minimal overhead and slowdowns.

The result is faster upload speeds wherever you are. The biggest improvements will be in Australia and other distant locations, but everyone should notice one.

Box boasts that it now offers the fastest upload speeds, as verified by an independent study, and is 2.7 faster than its closest competitor, globally.

"International users near one of the new network endpoints, whether they’re in sight of the new Box office in London or just getting things done in Sydney, should see the biggest speed increases when uploading content to Box," Box added.

"Located here in the US? Not to worry – we’ve also placed Box Accelerator locations in the Northwest, Midwest and on the East Coast so nearly everyone will experience quicker file uploads," it said.
