We've seen in game movies, some of them professionally edited, great voice acting and intriguing shooting patterns yet full scale documentaries were left untouched by the WoW hungry fan media. Professionals from The Dead Workers Party, an independent film company from Huntsville, Alabama, started working on a full feature documentary concerning WoW players and the way this game is affecting their lives.
It was only a matter of time until such an endeavor would come to light so here we have it: Bowling for Gnomeregan.
"Independent filmmakers are poised for success in the mass media market. There is plenty of creativity and drive but one piece of the puzzle that is missing is a place for filmmakers to unite in an organized fashion," wrote Brent of the Dead Workers Party forums. "Created by tireless part time burger-flipping, pencil-pushing filmmakers, the DWP strives to provide the local filmmaker with the personnel, equipment, and distribution to create movies on a scale unachievable by a typical independent group."
Bowling for Gnomeregan film makers are currently seeking WoW players, within reasonable driving range of their home base. Both in-game and in person interviews are scheduled alongside a massive guild coverage feature. To this end the documentary staff will be attending the Atlanta Dragon*Con during 1-4 September looking for interesting stories to tell. The documentary is expected to provide a unique contrast between real world footage and the respective WoW avatars in order to better understand the psychological mechanics that lead to this virtual projection.
