Spiders Studio has revealed a few more details regarding the crafting system in their upcoming fantasy role-playing game Bound by Flame.

Crafting will play an instrumental role in Bound by Flame, as players will rely on it for advancement in their journey, taking advantage of the updgrades it provides to characters as well as the pleasing aesthetic aspect it conveys.

A developer post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that during their quests, players will stumble upon various materials and components, both hidden in chests and looted from fallen foes, which will constitute the basic elements required to craft weapons, armor, traps, ammo or potions, which will play a vital role in progression.

Players are warned not to underestimate the depth of the crafting system or cast it aside too hastily, as some of Bound by Flame's strongest pieces of equipment will be acquired via crafting.

The system also affords a unique depth to the character's visual customization, with some pieces of armor having up to three slots that can be upgraded in order to directly impact a character's appearance.

Most of the attainable materials also have a tainted variant, which bestows various new crafting attributes. Players will need to gather large quantities of materials in order to craft the best weapons and armor; fortunately, lower-quality components, which come in abundance, can be used to create higher quality ones, at the cost of quantity.

Players will be able to specialize characters in Crafting, choosing from an entire list of talents specifically dedicated to enhancing one's efficiency in crafting. Master craftsmen will consume less materials and create more products, even boosting the amount of items found when looting.

As all equipment has a certain weight, players will reach a certain limit that will affect their movement, with several skills custom tailored to allow heroes to push the limits of their bag capacity, allowing them to store more weapons, armor and most of all, priced materials.

Consumable potions and traps are also not unlimited, and every now and then players will need to craft new ones in order to re-stock, which could prove to be quite costly.

Player characters can wear four pieces of armor, chest, boots, gloves and helmet, with each one having distinct customization options to allow players to tailor them to their particular playing style or visual preference.

Bound by Flame will be published by Focus Interactive on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PC platforms, sometime during 2014.
