New terms and conditions introduced across Europe

Starting today, European territories including the UK, Germany, Italy, and France will need to accept new terms and conditions before they buy another iOS app for their iPhones or iPads.

If you’re from Europe, don’t worry. The change is for the better. According to the new terms, “If you choose to cancel your order, you may do so within 14 days from when you received your receipt without giving any reason, except iTunes Gifts which cannot be refunded once you have redeemed the code.”

That means Apple will refund you even if you buy the most expensive app on iTunes, no questions asked. According to a customer who has already tested the waters, Apple sends you an email informing you that you have been issued a refund of the exact same amount.

Apparently there are no limits to this rule, so obviously some users are bound to step over the line. However, Apple will surely take the necessary precautions to thwart users who abuse the system.

The European Commission issued a new directive regarding digitally distributed goods this year, and Apple’s amendment appears to reflect these changes. The company hasn’t made an official announcement regarding the changed iTunes Terms and Conditions, nor do we expect it to (as it amends the document at least twice every year).
