The organizers of Botconf, the botnet fighting conference, have announced that experts can start submitting papers for this year’s edition of the event.

The deadline for Botconf 2014 paper submissions is July 15. Authors will be notified on September 15 and accepted papers will have to be submitted by October 30. The event takes place in Nancy, France, between December 3-5, 2014.

Botconf is an international conference that focuses on botnets, including malware distribution methods, command and control mechanisms, botnet management by cybercrime groups, monitoring, detection methods, and legal aspects related to botnets.

The event brings together researchers, law enforcement, representatives of the industry and academia.

While many of the presentations will probably be mostly technical, organizers highlight the fact that for the 2014 edition of Botconf, they hope to have more non-technical presentations that focus on law, criminology and behavioral analysis.

Those who want to showcase their findings at Botconf 2014 can apply for a full paper, a presentation or a short talk. The “full paper” category is for full scientific papers presented at the conference in a 40-60 minute timeslot.

Presentations are made in 30-50 minutes, while short talks (20 minutes) are mainly for young scientists and new projects.

Submitted papers must have a maximum of 20 pages. Research that has not been presented at other events will be favored.

Individuals whose papers are accepted benefit from full access to the conference, an invitation to the speakers’ dinner, and three free nights at a hotel. Organizers might also cover some travel costs for students whose papers are accepted.

The papers will be evaluated by the following committee: - Hendrik Adrian, CEO, KK KLJTECH, Tokyo, Japan - José Araujo, Deputy Head of the Applied and Fundamental Research Division, French Network and Information Security Agency (ANSSI), France - Domagoj Babic, Senior Scientist, Google, United States of America - Gilles Berger-Sabbatel, Chargé de recherches, CNRS, Laboratoire d’Informatique de Grenoble, France - Guillaume Bonfante, Assistant-Professor, Lorraine University, France - Alexandre Dulaunoy, Security Researcher, CIRCL, Computer Incident Response Center Luxembourg, National CERT, Luxembourg - Barry Irwin, Associate Professor, Rhodes University, Computer Science, South Africa - Denis Laskov, Independent researcher, Israël - Corrado Leita, Principal research engineer, Symantec, France - Jean-Yves Marion, Professor, LORIA, Université de Lorraine, France - David Naccache, Ecole Normale Supérieure, France - Fred Raynal, CEO, Quarkslab, France - Eric Freyssinet, Gendarmerie nationale (law enforcement) and Paris 6 University LIP6, France, programme committee chair
