Make a stand and help protect the environment

What with the recent frenzy in terms of initiatives meant to protect the environment, all of them with good reason, of course, here comes yet another one, just as original and double as exciting as the others before it. Designer Camila Labra has created the eco-friendly ankle boots from plastic carrier bags, the Botas Dacca, and they can be yours for no more than £30.

Made almost entirely of plastic bags that are no longer of use in supermarkets and stores, and with a cotton lining, these ankle boots are water-proof, as well as in tune with the latest tendencies in terms of model and heel. They’re also durable enough, so it’s not just for the trendy and environmentally-friendly factors that will be paying money for. Moreover, the designer assures us, no one will be able to tell the difference between a pair of these boots and leather ones.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, designer Labra claimed that, the first time she made a pair of these, people would come up to her to ask her where they could buy them, which is how she came up with the idea of putting an entire line out there. Even more, all those people could hardly believe their ears when they were told that what they so badly wanted was nothing else than common plastic bags with a sole, and plenty of creativity.

Speaking of which, Labra also told the Mail that it takes her about eight bags to make one pair. The initial idea for the line came to her when she was still a student and had to do a project in which she was supposed to render something useless useful again. “I realized that there was a lot of plastic bags in my home and that everyone used them like a trash bag. I was sure you could do something more useful with them than that and then one day I saw people putting them on their feet to stop their shoes getting wet. It was then that I realized the bags would be great for making boots.” the designer is quoted by the Mail as saying.

So far, the Botas Dacca boots have enjoyed quite a success on the market, both because they don’t cost all that much and for their environmentally-friendly side, which is something that more and more people are already starting to take into account. But there could be another reason here as well for their success, Labra tells the Mail. “I think this is because they don't look like they've been made from plastic bags and they don't feel like plastic bags when you touch them.”
